Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers appreciate their key fob's useful remote that comes with features. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the vehicle as well as start the engine and even locate the vehicle.

First, put the fob of the key on a clean work surface with the logo side facing upwards. Find the button that opens it, wedge a coin between the cover and the fob and then pull it up with care.

Locking the Doors

Hold your key fob with Volvo logo facing up to unlock or lock the manual lock. Find the black button at the edge of your key fob, and gently press it. This will open a cover which hides the key blade that is manual. This cover can be flipped counterclockwise by using a flathead or coin.

Starting the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs offer the convenience and performance that is not available with manual keys. However, just like any battery-powered electronic device the key fob may lose its charge, or cease working over time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, that's an indication that it's in need of a new battery.

You can enable this feature by using the key fob if your car comes with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will heat or cool to the exact temperature it was set to while it was parked. It will it can run for up to 15 minutes.

With a fingernail, remove the cover on the back of the key fob. Under the cover, on a diagonal near the body's edge, there is the button. Take it off by sliding it downwards, then to the right. The cover will break loose and slide off revealing the manual blade! If you are still unable to locate the button, search around the newly exposed manual key access area to see if there is a hidden slot or lever.

Closing the Windows

To do this do this, press and hold down the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower all of the windows, and also the sunroof, if your car comes with one. When you're finished with the car you can shut everything by pressing the lock button a second time for four seconds.

You can also use the key fob to activate your car's panic alarm. It will create an alarm that is loud enough to draw attention to the car and deter thieves. The opening of the Tailgate

Turning off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are much more convenient than a mechanical car key. However, they're not able to work flawlessly forever, and their batteries can eventually die. If you're running out of time or don't want to visit a store to have your key fob programmed, you can get it to work at home.

Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery and extra keys. Locate the small black button at the lower left corner of the key fob, Volvo Key Finder then slide it to the right. The cover will fall off and reveal the key blade's mechanical structure underneath.

The button to unlock the key fob twice quickly, and you will be able opening all the doors as well as the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for 2 minutes, you are able to close the windows and sunroof if they are equipped. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If not then the owner's manual must include a reset procedure.
