Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Mulliner, Bentley's custom coachbuilding unit, has created a unique keycase to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Bentley brand. Made from Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a flying "B" paperweight, a set Bently Keys and a brochure featuring never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.

Aesthetics

The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top car. Its rear tonneau for example, showcased the biggest piece of dark-stained, book-matched Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to a production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

Bentley is the most sought-after brand in the automotive industry worldwide due to its distinctive design and workmanship. The company continues pushing boundaries with the latest technologies and hand-crafted products. This includes the introduction of an electronic tilt-opening rear sunroof as well as a hand-crafted Apple iPad docking station.

Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary in the year 2019 a century after it was established. The marque, which is owned by Volkswagen without a partner following years of dispute with BMW, had planned a series of special events and launches to commemorate this historic occasion. The marque planned a variety of special occasions and launches to mark the occasion before pandemic planning became a priority.

Design

Bentley is known as a premium car manufacturer who produces extravagant and bently keys luxurious vehicles. However, even keys stand out. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver with an enormous B' logo to let everyone know that you drive a Bentley. The key is also embossed with the dates 1919 and 2019, to mark the company’s centenary.

The Mulsanne was redesigned and redeveloped by Bentley Mulliner in order to be the ultimate Grand Touring car. The rear seats are designed to give passengers unparalleled comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxury private aircraft. The customized heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system was designed to give every passenger the ideal temperature control.

In addition to a suite of elegantly executed styling revisions, the Mulsanne is powered by twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine capable of producing 560bhp as well as 479lbft of torque. This colossal power is complemented by a revolutionary suspension design that gives Bentley's trademark hushed ride.

In celebration of its Centenary, Bentley introduced a bespoke specification known as the Centenary Specification for cars that were built in 2019. The cabin features cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold throughout. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embossed in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a personalized Bentley keycase, completing the Bentley experience.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne Key features two buttons one of which opens the trunk, and another that is used to start the vehicle. It also has a switch to turn on the parking break. The knob can be used to fold or unfold the mirrors while parking in a tight spot. This feature helps you get into and out of your vehicle.

Each key takes two days to create. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, stitched after which it is sealed and polished to achieve a high-quality result. It is sturdy small and compact, and it fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is akin to the Volkswagen Phaeton large car's key, but it feels much heavier and has a premium feel.

It also has Secure-A-Key which prevents theft of keys with no key. This device is inserted inside the remote-control key fob and is turned off after a few minutes of inactivity. This stops thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices that can unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's distinctive design reflects company's values of fine craftsmanship and engineering expertise as well as modern technology. Its headquarters in Crewe is home to more than four hundred employees who are responsible for the design, development, and production of Bentley vehicles. These workers apply the skills passed down for generations and apply them to the latest in technology in the automotive industry. This is the hallmark of British manufacturing at its finest.

Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their own car. The "mood station" lets guests pick images that inspire them. These could range from stunning views to sporting events. As each selection is made, a pattern emerges that reveals the model and color preferences for the custom Bentley.

The configuration that is created is loaded onto individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys, which are presented to the guests in a handmade key case. The keys can also be fitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps, which illuminate the door-opening pathway with the owner's name, or emblem as they are approaching the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes around 500 man-hours to construct and put together a Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace new technology is the key to this lengthy and laborious process. Instead of employing a machine for spacers to the perfectly matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Drivers must park their vehicles manually, rather than relying on sensors built-in to direct them to perpendicular and paralell spots.

At the event, Bentley presented its Mulliner personalization capabilities using one particular example - the Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays homage to the man who founded the company, William Osler Bentley. The 100 limited edition cars include the key, which displays the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
